  • NUTRIGENOMICS: YOUR GENES, YOUR FOOD AND YOU!

Are you confused by all the conflicting nutritional information out there? One day coffee's bad for you, the next day it's good. Why can't anyone agree? What if it's not just the coffee but the way your individual genes interact with the coffee? Wouldn't it be great to know how about how coffee affects you, personally?

I had my genes analysed and I have changed some eating habits based on the result. Even though I have always emphasized eating lots of vegetables, when I discovered that I have the variation of the MTHFR gene that puts me at greater heart disease risk if I don't get TONS of folate from my diet, I am now more diligent about eating some at almost every meal.

Happily I also found out that I am a really good caffeine metabolizer so my 2 (okay, maybe 3!) cups of coffee every day work with my genes and don't increase my risk of high blood pressure.

Welcome to the world of Nutrigenomics - the science that explores the influence food and nutrients have on our genetic expression. The food we eat is much more than calories, carbohydrates, fats and protein. It's information. Information that gets translated into cellular instructions that can turn certain genes on or off and move us along the path to health or disease.

I'd love to share more about this and the move toward truly personalized health and nutrition, so please join me at the Studio. Here are the details:
